District One - Troy

Jim Brearton is an experienced legislator who had worked to improve higher education opportunities in the county and to protect needed health services relied on by families and county residents.

Jim serves as chairman of the Legislature's Health Committee and as a member of the county's Board of Health. In these roles, Jim helps shape county health policy and to ensure funding and support for disease prevention programs, health education and efforts to reduce the incidences of breast cancer and other illness.

Jim has also served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Hudson Valley Community College since 1983 and during his service, the college has grown into one of the top community colleges in the country.

Jim is particularly proud of his family's service to the nation. His daughter Jude has completed two tours of duty in the Middle East as a member of the 42^nd Infantry "Rainbow" Division. His son-in-law, Mike O'Brien, serves with U.S. Army Special Forces and presented the Legislature with a flag flown over a forward base in Afghanistan. Jim and his wife Judy have joined efforts to support soldiers serving overseas and families with loved ones serving overseas.
