District One – City of Troy

johnmainelloJohn Mainello will put his experience as a successful businessman to work helping create new jobs and opportunity in Troy, along with protecting quality of life in neighborhoods throughout the city. Stable taxes and creation of affordable housing for seniors and veterans will be a focus of John's work as legislator.

John got his start in business from his father Jerry, who for years operated the popular Mainello's tavern in Sycaway. John then began investing in Troy and surrounding communities, completing a number of successful commercial and residential projects that helped expand the tax base.

Often asked to run for elected office over the years, John chose to run in 2009 because of the challenges and opportunities facing Troy and Rensselaer County. John wants to encourage smart and environmentally friendly development to expand the tax base and provide relief to taxpayers and to revitalize neglected areas.

A lifelong resident of Troy, John and his wife Mary Ellen, who works at RPI, reside in Sycaway and are the parents of three daughters. They are active in the Our Lady of Victory parish and support a number of community organizations.
