ReidMartin Reid has earned a reputation for sponsoring innovative legislation that has helped protect quality of life in the county, supported job creation efforts and helped safeguard taxpayers.

Martin supported a 2009 county budget that did not raise taxes and supported fiscal management practices that resulted in an upgrade of the county's credit rating. He has also worked with other local officials to reduce unfunded state mandates.

The problems caused by toxic contamination have been a focus of Martin and his colleague, Legislator Alex Shannon. They successfully advocated for a new dam to protect the Nassau Lake area, and continue to advocate for a more complete clean-up of the toxic landfill. Martin has supported efforts to protect farmland in the area, along with the property along the Hudson River included in the Papscanee Island Nature Preserve. When the state closed Schodack Island State Park, Martin and Alex supported volunteer efforts that have kept the park open to the public.

In 2009, Legislators Reid and Shannon sponsored legislation that convinced the federal government to release a $3.6 million lien on the former Fort Orange Paper Co., helping efforts to revitalize the property.

Martin also led efforts to investigate over-billing of the county by prescription drug companies. The investigation resulted in taxpayer funds being paid back to county taxpayers. As chairman of the Legislature's Social Services Committee, Martin has also
